Dear Families of the Geddes Community,

It brings me great pleasure to be named the new Principal of Ernest R. Geddes Elementary School, and I look forward to getting to know all the wonderful families that make up this great community.  I know I’m stepping into a very important role as your child’s Principal, with high expectations, and I have some very “big shoes” to fill. Ms. Castro has established a very successful pathway for student achievement at Geddes School, and I’m committed to continuing the tradition. 

I come to Geddes school with 19 years of experience in education, 18 of those years being in Baldwin Park Unified School District. I have a variety of professional development experiences in helping to train and mentor teachers excel in best practices, and 12 years of classroom experience helping students excel at high levels.  I also have experiences and knowledge in the Dual Language Program at Tracy and Walnut Elementary Schools, and because of those experiences, I will serve to oversee the success of the Geddes Dual Language Program as well.  The leadership opportunities afforded to me through our district have adequately prepared me to lead Geddes School, and continue the success and achievement it has experienced. With the talented teachers, dedicated support staff, hard-working students, and your partnership, I know Geddes will continue its growth as an example of excellence.

Under Ms. Castro’s leadership, our teachers and students in 2^nd-5^th grades have been working diligently through-out the school year towards the California Standards Tests (CST) that will begin next Tuesday, April 16^th, 2013.  A California Standards Tests schedule was sent before spring break, and for your reference you can find the CST testing dates on our school website.  I encourage you to help your child’s performance on the California Standards Tests (CST) by ensuring your child gets plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time every day.  This important event and the daily operations of the school calls for us to stay focused, so that we finish the school year well.  At a later date I will send out a formal invitation for us to get better acquainted, and where I can give you my expectations and address any questions you may have. As always, we are all committed to working hard every day to ensure the students are receiving optimal learning experiences and that they are safe.  Thank You!

Estimadas familias de la comunidad de Geddes,

Es un gran placer ver sido nombrada la nueva Directora de la escuela primaria, Ernest R. Geddes, y estoy deseosa de conocer a todas las familias maravillosas que forman parte de esta gran comunidad. Sé que estoy entrando en un papel muy importante como la Directora de su hijo/a, con grandes expectativas, y sé que tengo "zapatos grandes" para llenar.  La Sra. Castro ha establecido un camino muy exitoso para el logro estudiantil en la escuela Geddes, y me he comprometido a continuar con la tradición.

Vengo a la escuela Geddes con 19 años de experiencia en educación, 18 de esos años en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Baldwin Park. Tengo una variedad de experiencias en desarrollo profesional para ayudar a formar y asesorar a los maestros destacar en mejores prácticas, y 12 años de experiencia en el salón ayudando a los estudiantes a lograr niveles altos.  También, tengo experiencias y conocimiento en el Programa de Doble Inmersión en las Escuelas Tracy y Walnut, y debido a aquellas experiencias, serviré para supervisar el éxito del programa de Doble Inmersión en Geddes.  Las oportunidades de liderazgo que se me han ofrecido a través de nuestro distrito adecuadamente me ha preparado para dirigir la escuela Geddes y continuar su éxito y el logro que han experimentado. Con los talentosos maestros, la dedicación del personal de apoyo, estudiantes trabajadores y nuestras familias, sé que Geddes continuará su crecimiento como un ejemplo de excelencia.

Bajo el liderazgo de la Sra. Castro, los maestros y estudiantes del 2˚al 5˚ grado, han estado trabajando diligentemente todo el año escolar para los Exámenes de Normas de California (CST) que se iniciará el próximo martes, el 16 abril del 2013. Una carta informándoles sobre las pruebas de CST fue enviada antes de las vacaciones de primavera, y para referencia, usted puede encontrar las fechas de los Exámenes de Normas de California (CST) en el sitio web de la escuela.  Les animo a ayudar a su hijo/a en el rendimiento de los Exámenes de Normas de California (CST), asegurándose que su hijo/a tome suficiente descanso, coma un desayuno saludable, y llegue a tiempo a la escuela todos los días.  Este evento es muy importante y las operaciones diarias de la escuela nos piden que nos centremos de tal forma que terminamos el año escolar bien.  Posteriormente enviaré una invitación formal para que nos podamos conocer mejor y donde puedo darles mis expectativas y contestar preguntas que quizás tenga para mí. Como siempre, nos comprometemos a trabajar duro todos los días para los que los estudiantes reciben experiencias de aprendizaje óptimas y que estén seguros. ¡Muchas Gracias!

Please remember that although attendance is important,  students who have a fever should remain at home. Keep in mind that students should be fever free 24 hours before returning to school. If your child’s attendance is being  monitored, make sure you bring them into the office so that we can document the absence. As always, please turn in any    doctors notes into the office. If your child needs to take medication make sure the doctor’s orders are specified on the form the district provides. You can pick up a form in the front office.

Tenga en cuenta que los estudiantes deben estar sin fiebre 24 horas antes de regresar a la escuela. Additionally, Chris Lucero, Virginia Castro and Arturo Ortega went to New York City and participated in MSNBC Education Summit.
